Beautiful new book: Inspired by Vintage Quilts

This special publication is a selection of 15 stunning quilt projects from the pages of Quilters Companion magazine. The quilts fall into three categories; pieced, appliqué and medallion. The large format and thick glossy pages makes this a stunning quilting book you will happily have adorn your coffee table – that is, when you are not making all the beautiful quilts found inside! Quilt makers include Chris Jurd, Robyn Falloon, Lynne Alchin, Anne Sommerlad and Michelle Yeo.

The projects offer a variety of techniques such as foundation piecing, templates and rotary-cut pieces that can be stitched together by hand or machine. Some designs also feature appliqué.  But the quilts all have one thing in common – they are all inspired by vintage quilts. A pattern sheet is included with all designs at 100%, so no scaling and photocopying required.

Kim designed a beautiful quilt-as-you-go project to demonstrate on the DVD. We are sure you will be just as in awe of her quilting ability as we are! Being able to see Kim’s quilts in the flesh at the DVD shoot was simply inspiring. On the DVD, Kim shares some great machine quilting and quilt-as-you-go tips. And she is a complete character! The day of filming was filled with giggles and laughs.

See a DVD come together

Have you ever wondered how the QC DVDs are put together? Well we thought we would show you behind the scenes. This is behind the scenes of our upcoming Great Australian Quilts #5 DVD with Amanda Daly. We had a fabulous time filming with Amanda and learning the art of precision machine applique.

We film all DVDs at purpose built studios. At present there are two locations we use in Sydney. These studios are sound proof so we don’t get any interference with sounds of day to day activities when we are filming. You would be amazed that even in quiet surroundings there is still plenty of ambient noise and the super sensitive microphones we use pick up all of it!

So this is what the studio looks like when we arrive.

Then we start putting the set together . . .

And then we surround it with lights and cameras! (Well John does! – our director, cameraman, film editor extraordinaire!)

Once hair and makeup are complete Amanda and Clare are on set to start filming.
