The winter Olympics in Sochi are in full swing and the competition is amazing. However, we here at Quilters Companion can’t help but notice the imagery on the banners around the events and even the competitor’s bibs. We reported back in QC#63 that organisers had adopted a creative design called the “Sochi Patchwork Quilt” – a mosaic of national designs from the various cultures and ethnicities of the Russian Federation – as the official look for Russia’s first winter Olympics. The design was incorporated in a range of Olympic features, including the uniforms worn by staff and volunteers and the tickets to each event. Souvenir apparel featuring gorgeous washes of bright colours in the classic diamond shape of traditional patchwork were also available for sale to the general public. The colours and patterns look amazing!
I’ve had some fun playing with a new app this week called FLIPAGRAM. Check out my creation using the projects from the current issue (QC#65) at: http://fgr.am/f/J2GIpNMiYx Clare
